My e-commerce career

After ten years of ups and downs, the dawn of success has finally emerged in my e-commerce business. Those acts of perseverance that were once ridiculed and the countless nights I spent alone delving into data and plans have now become my most precious treasures.

Once, in order to develop an environmentally friendly household product, the whole team spent months searching for a suitable raw material supplier. There were numerous negotiations and sample tests. We turned down those low-quality but cheap materials, even though it led to a significant increase in cost. At that time, many people didn’t understand and thought we were stupid. In the highly competitive e-commerce market, they believed this would make us lose our price advantage. But we firmly believed that only by providing high-quality products could we truly win the hearts of consumers. When this product was finally launched and received a flood of favorable reviews, with consumers praising its quality and environmental concept, at that moment, I knew our perseverance was right.

As the company grew gradually, I had more disposable time and resources, but I didn’t become the least bit slack. Because I knew that this success belonged not only to me but also to those partners who fought side by side with me and to my family who had always supported me silently. With each new product launch and each successful marketing campaign, what I saw was no longer just the growth of sales and profits but the smiles of countless consumers due to our excellent products and services. That was the best reward for our perseverance.

Once, our logistics and distribution system malfunctioned, resulting in a large number of orders being delayed. Facing inquiries and complaints from consumers, we didn’t choose to conceal or shirk responsibility. Our customer service team worked overtime to communicate with consumers, informed them truthfully of the situation, and provided a compensation plan. At the same time, we urgently allocated resources to solve the logistics problem. Although this incident cost us a lot of money, it won the trust of consumers. Many consumers stated in subsequent reviews that it was precisely our honest and responsible attitude that made them decide to become our long-term customers.

Looking back over these ten years, I’m glad that I didn’t get lost in the torrent of false sales. Although the process was extremely difficult and seeing some peers rising through improper means, I did have moments of confusion. But now I understand that commercial success is by no means a short-term act of opportunism but a long-term accumulation of reputation. The sincerity and integrity we have adhered to are like a lighthouse, guiding us in the dark market competition and attracting more and more like-minded people, whether they are employees, partners or consumers.

I also often think about how to bring more positive changes to this industry. I have begun to engage in advocating industry norms and sharing our experiences, hoping to make more e-commerce practitioners realize that true success is built on the cornerstone of integrity. I’m no longer just a merchant struggling for survival and profit but a participant with the responsibility to lead the healthy development of the industry. Because I deeply understand that when integrity becomes the norm of the entire industry, each of us will benefit, and our society will also become more beautiful due to the healthy development of commerce. This, perhaps, is the deepest perception and mission bestowed upon me by these ten years of e-commerce career.
